Rene’s House

Rene grew up on Dornoch Terrace, very close to the park. She’s in her 80s now and lives a few doors away from her childhood home in another beautiful house, hidden from view from the street. The house she grew up in is now gone. She told me about how sad she was when Torbreck was built because it meant the removal of a huge homestead where the family had horses. As much as Torbreck is admired and revered, it’s interesting to hear how the change was not necessarily welcomed by everyone.

This house was tricky to draw because of the fence and hedge that runs in front. It was almost like a puzzle that I pieced together. I have since drawn the house with the view from the street. That’ll be on next year’s tea towel!
